TEACHERS: Professional development workshops
START YOUR OWN TAIKO PROGRAM AT YOUR SCHOOL
** No PDs are scheduled at present. PDs can be organised at any time (usually weekends) and will go ahead with a minimum of 3 schools participating (minimum of 6 teachers).
Please register your interest for upcoming workshops by sending me an email. If your school volunteers to host a PD, one teacher can attend for free.
Cost – 2 teachers (must be from the same school) $450
1 teacher $300
I strongly recommend that 2 teachers attend (a Japanese and music specialist if possible).
Several schools in WA have already implemented their own taiko program after attending a Kaze No Ko Professional Development Workshop.
These programs have been very successful and well-received by teachers and students alike (please see testimonial below). A Kaze No Ko workshop includes everything you need to know to start your own program.
The workshop focuses on learning how to make drums (cheaply!) from rubbish bins, how to read and write taiko notation, how to incorporate Japanese studies and other various classroom learning areas such as Technology and Enterprise and science and lastly but most importantly, how to play the drums. I create a video of the PD and send each school a copy of the DVD after the program.
The program is intended to be implemented over 1 or 2 school terms and it is recommended that more than 1 teacher from any interested school attend as the programme requires collaboration especially in the planning stages. A taiko performing group is the perfect assembly item or contribution to community events and is also a great fun way to introduce your students to Japanese culture!
Professional Development workshops for teachers – minimum participants = 6 teachers (or 3 schools)
Prices – First teacher $300, second teacher from same school $150
The first $150 is for the workshop, the second is for the materials. Each school must buy the materials if they participate in the workshop. The materials belong to the school that pays for them.
Saturday and Sunday group workshop minimum fee $300 (maximum participants 10, minimum of 2-hour booking)
Workshops for up to 30 are possible (please inquire about prices)
