In 2009, 15 kindergarten teachers from Moriguchi in Japan committed to learning taiko as they found children very responsive to it. They came here to Perth in August to raise the profile of teaching drumming to children and encourage teachers here to explore ways they might incorporate it into their classes.
The group visited the only taiko group in Perth, Kaze No Ko Drumming School for a drumming exchange. After spending a couple of hours drumming together, we have found new friends and are ecstatic and grateftul for the donation of 3 drums to Kaze No Ko Drumming School.
Kaze No Ko has been taking taiko into schools for the past 2 years with a fantastic response from primary and secondary students alike. Slowly more schools in Western Australia are beginning to incorporate taiko into their school program with some very promising results.
