About Taiko Drumming
In Japan, taiko is often performed at festivals creating a very vibrant and exciting atmosphere. Many different types of drums are used from the high-pitched shime daiko (often played while seated and usually charged with the responsibility of keeping everyone in time), the mid-sized nagado (meaning ‘long body’ and sometimes made out of old wine barrels covered with cowhide) and the very large odaiko (meaning ‘very big drum’).
